Welcome to Thea Holtan’s
web site. Here you will find practical help, both in
writing and in teaching writing. You will join countless students and
teachers
who continuously use or teach the simple strategies for understanding
information, organizing it, and putting it into writing.
What makes this research
process unique for you, the student?
You’ll follow simple how-to instructions for each step.
You’ll use forms
that look like note cards and outlines.
You’ll examine each of your notes with questions to help you think
of
reasons, similarities and differences, examples, and definitions.
You’ll
also
use notes to help you think about a variety of synonyms for the subject.
You’ll predict categories for your notes. Then you’ll sort
them into those categories
for making your topic outline.
You'll strengthen your logical thinking skills.
You’ll have checklists that will help you correct your own writing.
You’ll be able to use these steps again and again with any subject.
You'll grow through Levels 1, 2, and 3 from Kindergarten to
Grade 12.
What makes this research process unique for you, the
teacher?
You will find that this process is practical and easy to teach.
You can apply this process to the content of all studied subjects, K-12.
You can use several of the process’ strategies to lead students
through discussing and grasping
content that they are studying.
You can phrase instructions effectively and present
materials clearly.
You can emphasize the Six Traits of Writing.
You can teach a complete writing curriculum: narrative writing, expository
research papers, expository essays and the 14 ways of organizing thoughts.
